Christarchy!

I was saying that anyone who wants to do anarchism right ought to read Ursula LeGuin's _The Dispossessed_... and then this evening I started thinking about the anarchists on her imaginary world, how they invented a language intended to defuse the notion of "property," of "owning" anything.

Even with personal property, for these people it is not "my toothbrush" but "the toothbrush I use."

All those various things we take pride in, and think belong to us... "My mind." "My faith."

The mind that I use. The faith that I'm given to manifest...

The sins I've been given. The repentance and forgiveness I've also been given... to use.

The life that I play...

There's a history... of some pretty sharp people who have devoted considerable thought to questions like 1) How do people get along without governments, so far as we've found people who do that? and 2) How can we organize the aspects of life that work better that way--without resorting to the sort of vicious power-plays that historically characterize 'civilized' governments (& corporations, for that matter)?

We might try just 'winging it,' but the likely outcome will be that we will, once again, repeat Mistake # 7B and end up with a fascist pushing everyone around in the name of Anarchism. Or like that.

What goes wrong with communities like Oneida? How would we get something going that can maintain itself without some sort of emotional force & violence? If you wants the results, you does the work!
